Portuguese Colonialism in East Africa: Zanzibar as a Case Study

Abstract

The study deals with Portuguese colonialism in Zanzibar, which overlooks the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea. Importantly, this strategic state was subjected to the invasion of Portugal seeking to achieve its economic, political, and religious goals and ambitions. However, the Arab and African resistance represented in confronting this colonialism from the Ottoman and Omani states destroyed the hopes of the Portuguese state.
